Captain's Comment

Hope everyone enjoyed the month of July with the many cookouts, outings, parades, etc. and still finding the time to play some golf. What a great time of year! I hope everyone is enjoying it as much as I am. Thankfully the weather has been cooperating. It looks like those hot, humid, sticky days are upon us...We have had our share of days, but who's counting...

Already we are into the month of August....Now where did the time go? We had a busy month of July hosting a number of events... Our Member Three Guest was a lot of fun...The Members and their outside Guests seemed to enjoy themselves. Amazingly enough, all our Game winners were Guests, and some of our Top Winners were First time Winners here at Woodland... Our Club Championship Qualifying rounds were played over a number of weekends finally coming down to the wire. This year there was not only a Championship Division, but a First Division, a 50-59 year old Division and a 60 & over age group Division...The Club Championship Winner came right down to the last hole with the winner winning 1 up after 36 Holes. A great match!

Our Two Day Member-Member was a great success.The weather cooperated and Winners received 2006 Golf Memberships!

Congratulations are in order to the Ladies who have won a number of Tournaments representing Woodland Greens honorably in the Ocean State Women's Golf Association. Way to go Ladies!

An added addition to our website was the Woodland Greens Virtual Tour. A lot of work was put into it and I have received a number of e-mails from not only our Members but from visiting Guests saluting the great job that was done on the Virtual Tour. If you have not seen it yet, please be sure to check it out... Always at www.woodlandgc.com and click on the Virtual Tour Link...It is a great added addition for your viewing pleasures.

I am offering a couple of $PECIAL$ to our Members for the months of August, September and October. Be sure to check them out in the $PECIAL$ section of the Newsletter.

At this time, I would like to remind the Members to please pay special attention to the care of the course. Recently, we have had a rash of divots taken on the aprons, many balls marks on the greens gone unfixed and divots in the fairways and tees not replaced. The course is soft at the present time as we try to keep up with the watering. Also, please follow all cart signs because it is soft around the greens. This will prevent cart damage to the turf. It would be greatly appreciated by the grounds crew and myself if we could all help out to keep the course in good playing condition.

We have a number of UPCOMING EVENTS... Be sure to check them out as well.... Only one more Mixed Scotch (Aug. 7th), the Qualifying for Mulligan - Interclub Tournament, and our final Member Guest on (Sept. 11th), as well as our last Member Member on (Sept. 25th)...Please be a part of the Events... Support your Club!

Golf Tip of the Month

                                                    
CHIPS AND PITCHES

Best Tip: Let left arm control club with little wrist action. Choke down on the club an inch or two for chips. Use narrow, open stance. Open the clubface and keep it square to the target. Use the same basic swing for a chip and a pitch.
