Captain's Comment

The course is coming along; slowly but surely. I have to commend my workcrew for a great job in cleaning up the course and preparing it for the 2008 Golf Season. They have worked hard and diligently in getting the course in shape for your golfing pleasure. It has not been easy, but it is coming along! Hopefully "Mother Nature" will be a little bit kind in providing us with some warmth and sunshine to grow some grass.

I do hope everyone has gotten acquainted with our newest addition to the Golf Course; the computer. Everyone seems happy with this newest addition.

Also, in order to keep the course looking its very best for you, the members, I can't emphasize enough the importance of doing your part in helping me and my crew maintain it and keep it in good shape. Please take the time to follow what are "Simple Rules" of the Course. These rules are only enforced to keep the course in good shape. Please Follow Cart Signs, Replace Divots, Fix Ball Marks, and Rake Traps. This will help add to the beauty of the course and make your golfing experience much more enjoyable.

Tees and Fairways have already been aerated, sliced and seeded. Greens will be aerated on May 4th & 5th or May 11th & 12th, depending on the weather. Signs will be Posted!

So for now, enjoy the Golf and hope to see you on the Course.

Friday Night Kick-Off

It was nice to see familiar faces at our Friday Night "Kickoff" with
everyone anxiously awaiting some nice Spring weather. A meeting was held where rules, the Ghin system, handicaps, and the computer were discussed. Everyone seemed very excited about the newest addition to the Club; the computer. It will now serve as a simple and quick way for everyone to post their scores. Awards were given out to those who won Tournaments in 2007. Members then got a chance to familiarize themselves with the computer; everyone quite excited with this newest addition.

Winners of Woodland Greens 2007 Awards were:

  • Club Championship Medalist - Rob Touchette
  • Club Champion - Tim Houlihan
  • Club Championship Finalist - Rob Rainville
  • Club Championship 1st Flight Champion - Roger Thibodeau
  • Club Championship 1st Flight Finalist - Mark Duffy
  • Club Championship Senior Division Champion - Ben Baxter

Golf Tip of the Month: Plain & Simple Putting
~ 5 Simple Steps

Position; Grip; Aim; Stroke; and Acceleration

Position yourself so your eyes are over the intended line of the putt(ball line).

To do this, grip your putter loosely and directly under your eyes as you address the putt. Your hands should work as a unit and not be spread apart. The farther apart your hands are, the more likely you are to use your wrists, which is not desired.

Aim at a target and imagine a straight line through the center of your putter.

Your putting stroke should be dominated by the shoulders and arms and involve as little wrist movement as possible. Minimize body movement. Successful putters have a backswing and follow-through of equal length.

This promotes acceleration and aids distance control.

Simple Rules of the Golf Course

Please Follow Cart Signs, Replace Divots, Fix Ball Marks, and Rake Traps. Look Ahead, Don't Look Back....This will move play along nicely and make your Golfing experience much more enjoyable...
