Comment

The course is coming along nicely. Aerating of the greens has been completed and day by day the course is getting back in shape. There are many events coming up this month, and my main goal is to get the course in "tip top" shape for your golfing pleasure.
The Two Day Member Member Tournament was a great success with many new faces as Winners this year! Congratulation to all the winners!
Guest Day on Memorial Day weekend was a lot of fun with a full field of golfers participating. What better way to start the Holiday Weekend off than with a day of golf with friends followed by a succulent dinner again prepared superbly by Ron! It surely was a day of fun and relaxation. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support in these events.
We have some exciting upcoming Tournaments scheduled for this month. The Two Day Member Guest and the Mixed Scotch which is always a lot of fun with many laughs. Do sign up for these Tournaments.....Support your Club!
On another note: Friends of Wally Broome, Kevin Higgins and Al Dinwoodie (FWAK) will be hosting a Golf Tournament in his memory where proceeds will go to the Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island. This Tournament will be held on Sat. June 14th with a 2:00 Shotgun. Your $30.00 donation will include a 9-hole Scramble with a Raffle and an Italian Buffet to follow. You can sign up at the Club. Non-Members can pay Greens fees the day of the event.
Also; Woodland Greens Golf Course was featured in the May issue of the Golfstyles Magazine . Below you can read the article that was written. There is also a copy of the article posted in the clubhouse. It surely is a great article about your Golf Course.
Well for now, enjoy the rest of the Spring and I hope to see you on the course.
Happy Golfing
Dave

Nine is (Sometimes) Enough
They are the hidden treasures of New England: charming,
well-tended and yet challenging nine-hole courses.
One of the best in Rhode Island, Woodland Greens Golf Club, sits on Old Baptist Rd., a back trail around Route 2 in North Kingstown. This course more than lives up to its name. Each fairway is lined by beautiful trees which will claim wayward tee shots without mercy.
The greens are impeccable and faster than Jacoby Ellsbury. The
course is a delight to play, with a uniqueness not found on many tracks. You play three par 3-holes, six if you go around twice and they make the course.
Nine-hole courses seldom receive much respect, but players who
take on Woodland Greens come away appreciating the art of the short track.
For many years. many of the state's most respected amateur
players have played out at Woodland Greens. PGA Tour player, Patrick Sheehan won multiple club championships and was a two-time finalist in the Rhode Island State Amateur while representing Woodland Greens. Former University of Rhode Island standout Chad Spencer was and still is a Woodland Greens Member. This is a blue-collar kind of club, kind of like a golf version of "Cheers," where everybody knows your name.
General Manager David Creta has been in place since 1980 when
John Giusti purchased the Club.
"I think we have a nice setup here," says Creta, who is also the course superintendent, head bartender and in charge of anything else that needs to be done. Woodland Greens has 100 Members who enjoy preferred tee times on weekends and holidays until noon. The green fees are more than reasonable, the food is excellent and the hospitality first rate.
Woodland Greens is one on those clubs that you will enjoy, both on the course and after your round-whether it's nine holes or 18.

A Better Golf Swing DON'T SWING SO HARD.
Many golfers have good practice swings which are very different from the swings they use to hit the ball. The practice swing is usually relaxed and under control, and feels balanced. The ball is not there, so there is no feeling that you must hit this shot 190 yards to get to the green. Thus the good swing. Then preparation begins for the real thing and tension moves in. The grip tightens, the legs stiffen, the forearms get tense and the mind is focused on getting the maximum distance out of whatever club you're using. The result often is a mediocre shot.
To hit the ball with your practice swing, you need do only one thing: grip the club gently as if you were holding a bird in your hands. Keep that gentle grip feeling all through the back swing. Don't let your hands tighten as the club starts back. That's all there is to it. The tension in your hands and arms will evaporate, ball contact will be much better, the ball will fly longer and straighter and your finish will look good. Needless to say, practicing this "soft-hands" swing will make it feel natural sooner and strengthen your confidence in this change.
Simple Rules of the Golf Course

Please Follow Cart Signs, Replace Divots, Fix Ball Marks, and Rake Traps. Look Ahead, Don't Look Back....This will move play along nicely and make your Golfing experience much more enjoyable...
Important NOTICE to our MEMBERS! MEMBERS using CARTS!
Anyone continuing on to play 18 holes with a CART after you have already paid for 9 holes using a CART, YOU MUST STOP by the Clubhouse and PAY before you continue on playing! This would be greatly appreciated.
