Captain's Comment

The course is coming along nicely. Aerating of the greens has been completed and day by day the course is getting back in shape. There are many events coming up this month, and my main goal is to get the course in "tip top" shape for your golfing pleasure.

The Member Member Tournament was a great success with many new faces as Winners this year! Congratulation to all the winners!

Guest Day on Memorial Day weekend was a lot of fun with a full field of golfers participating. What better way to start the Holiday Weekend off than with a day of golf with friends followed by a succulent dinner again prepared superbly by Ron! It surely was a day of fun and relaxation. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support in these events.

We have some exciting upcoming Tournaments scheduled for this month. The Two Day Member Guest and the Mixed Scotch which is always a lot of fun with many laughs. Do sign up for these Tournaments.....Support your Club!

On another note: Friends of Wally Broome (FOWB) will be hosting a Golf Tournament in his memory where proceeds will go to the Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island. This Tournament will be held on Sat. June 16th with a 2:00 Shotgun. Your $30.00 donation will include a 9-hole Scramble with a Raffle and an Italian Buffet to follow. You can sign up at the Club. Non-Members can pay greens fees the day of the event.

Well for now, enjoy the rest of the Spring and I hope to see you on the course.

Happy Golfing!

Dave

Golf Tip of the Month: A Better Golf Swing

DON'T SWING SO HARD.

Many golfers have good practice swings which are very different from the swings they use to hit the ball. The practice swing is usually relaxed and under control, and feels balanced. The ball is not there, so there is no feeling that you must hit this shot 190 yards to get to the green. Thus the good swing. Then preparation begins for the real thing and tension moves in. The grip tightens, the legs stiffen, the forearms get tense and the mind is focused on getting the maximum distance out of whatever club you're using. The result often is a mediocre shot.

To hit the ball with your practice swing, you need do only one thing: grip the club gently as if you were holding a bird in your hands. Keep that gentle grip feeling all through the back swing. Don't let your hands tighten as the club starts back. That's all there is to it. The tension in your hands and arms will evaporate, ball contact will be much better, the ball will fly longer and straighter and your finish will look good. Needless to say, practicing this "soft-hands" swing will make it feel natural sooner and strengthen your confidence in this change.
