Captain's Comment

Summer is upon us. April wasn't the best of months, however May and June were great. Now here comes the 90's, and I don't mean your score! Summer has arrived!! I am hoping for a great month of July; with the help of "mother nature" providing us with some great golfing weather...

We had an exciting number of events in the month of June starting with The Challenge Cup where youngsters from all parts of New England were here to test their talents.

Our Two Day Member Guest was a lot of fun. We had a successful Tournament weathering some difficult playing conditions with winners walking away with some very nice prizes.

The first Mixed Scotch of the season was a lot of fun. Weatherwise, we caught a real beauty of a day! It was a spectacular day filled with sunshine with an extra benefit of having the Blue Angels perform above us as we played golf! This tournament is always a lot of fun and this is the one tournament where friends and guests can not only enjoy the game of golf but the company of good friends.

The Wally Broome Fundraiser was a big success with many of Wally's "old golfing buddies" along with some family and friends all coming together to remember and honor him. The tournament raised $2820.00 with all proceeds going to Home & Hospice Care of RI..........I want to thank each and everyone who participated and helped make it a great success. A Special thanks to Bob Bursley and Ken McKay for all their time and effort.

July hopes to be a great month. A number of events are planned....the Member 3-Guest, and the Two Day Member-Member. Please check your schedules and be a part of the Woodland Community and participate.. Support your Club!

Just a reminder: Sat. & Sun. there are Tee Rules. Members have the Tee with guest between 7am-11am. You NEED at least three or four people to play! NO onesomes, No twosomes. The bartender will try to group you with other players, if it is at all possible. You need three players of your group to sign up for a Tee slot. A starter will arrive at 11am to handle the incoming public and Members. We will then also try to match groups together. Please do not expect to show up at 9:30, 10:00 in a onesome or twosome and expect to play! If a twosome has been hanging around all morning to tee off and cannot be teamed up it is at the discretion of the bartender to let them play as a twosome. If you have any questions on this procedure, please see me at the Club anytime.

Thanks and enjoy the Season!

Have a safe 4th of July & Happy Golfing!

Dave

Golf Tip of the Month: Grip Pressure

Grip "Don't Squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube!"

Your grip should be in the fingers of both hands, not the palms. Most of the grip pressure should be felt in the last three fingers of your left hand. There is much less pressure in the right hand. There should be no pressure at all in the thumb and forefinger of the right hand. Keep your overall grip pressure light.

"Don't squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube."
